Columbia’s fire chief says Ameren Missouri has controlled the natural gas leak that happened on Ninth street this morning.

Fire chief Clayton Farr Jr. tells 939 the Eagle that the leak led the self-evacuations of the Boone County Courthouse and the nearby Roger Wilson Government Center. The chief says both buildings are now re-occupied. No injuries are reported.

THIS IS THE ORIGINAL STORY FROM THIS MORNING:

Columbia’s fire chief says the Boone County Courthouse and nearby Roger Wilson Government Center have both self-evacuated this morning, due to an active natural gas leak on Ninth street.

Chief Clayton Farr Jr. tells 939 the Eagle that the natural gas leak is adjacent to the government building.

Chief Farr says the buildings self-evacuated out of an abundance of caution. He emphasizes that there are no injuries and that no gas has been detected in either building.

Ameren says planned solar installation in mid-Missouri will inject millions into the economy

Ameren Missouri’s proposal to build and manage a 200-megawatt solar installation in mid-Missouri has been approved by the Missouri Public Service Commission (PSC).

The company’s largest-ever solar facility will be built near the Audrain and Ralls county border. Ameren senior director of renewable development Scott Wibbenmeyer is excited.

“This facility will help Ameren Missouri retransition another step in our transition plan to supply renewable energy to Missouri customers,” Wibbenmeyer says.

Wibbenmeyer tells 939 the Eagle that construction alone will create about 250 jobs. Ameren Missouri executives say customers across the state will benefit from the planned construction of the Huck Finn solar facility in mid-Missouri. Mr. Wibbenmeyer says the project will provide clean electricity and will inject millions of dollars into the community over the project’s life.

“As we start construction here in (20)23, we expect it to be fully operational and constructed by the end of 24. That will create 250 or more construction jobs, so we’re excited about that. Output of the plant will supply over 40,000 homes,” he says.

The PSC has approved the project, saying there is a need for the service and that Ameren Missouri’s proposal is economically feasible.

Boone Electric crews are working to restore power in snow-impacted southeast Missouri

January 26, 2023 By Brian Hauswirth

Linemen from at least three mid-Missouri rural electric cooperatives are in southern Missouri this (Thursday) morning, helping to restore power in areas that saw about ten inches of snow.

Heavy, wet snow across south Missouri caused trees to fall into lines, knocking power out to thousands of people.

Columbia-based Boone Electric Cooperative has eight linemen and four trucks in hard-hit Fredericktown, which is south of Farmington. They’re assisting the Black River Electric Cooperative, which still has about 8,700 members members without power. Linn-based Three Rivers Electric Cooperative and Tipton-based Co-Mo Connect Electric Cooperative also have crews in southern Missouri.

The Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives’ outage map indicates there are still eight southern Missouri counties that have at least 1,000 power outages of rural cooperative members. That doesn’t included residents on utilities like Ameren Missouri.

December 28, 2021 By Brian Hauswirth
