About 400 principals and school administrators from across Missouri are wrapping up their 88th annual joint fall education conference in Columbia this (Tuesday) morning.

Governor Mike Parson addressed the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals (MoASSP) and the Missouri Council of Career and Technical Administrators (MCCTA) at Columbia’s Holiday Inn Executive Center today. The governor presented a proclamation for school principals’ month, after his speech. He also visited after his speech with numerous principals and administrators, and posed for a number of photos with them.

Fulton middle school principal Beth Houf, the NASSP national principal of the year, joined the governor on-stage this morning. Governor Parson praises the work she’s doing at Fulton middle school.

The audience has also heard presentations from a number of other speakers. One of the topics they’ve heard about is trauma that impacts students.

The Columbia Orthopaedic Group will receive the John Q. Hammons Founder’s award during November’s Missouri Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Columbia.

Hall of Fame officials say the Columbia Orthopaedic Group supports the Hall of Fame’s numerous events and has been a great resource in identifying doctors and athletic trainers for consideration for induction.

Columbia Orthopaedic Group has 27 physicians who diagnose, treat, rehabilitate and help prevent orthopedic injury and disease. Their 92,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility is located on Columbia’s Keene street.

Dr. Pat Smith and Dr. Mark Adams of the Columbia Orthopaedic Group have been inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame.

The enshrinement ceremony is set for Sunday November 20 at Columbia’s Holiday Inn Executive Center. A reception begins that afternoon at 4, with dinner served at 5.

Hundreds of people are expected to be in Columbia for the next three days for Missouri’s 2022 highway safety and traffic conference, which opens Tuesday afternoon at the Holiday Inn Executive Center.

State Department of Transportation (MoDOT) spokesman Cole Duenckel tells 939 the Eagle that 400 to 500 professionals are scheduled to attend. The event begins at 12:30 with the national anthem and opening remarks from Lieutenant Governor Mike Kehoe (R-Jefferson City). There will also be a panel discussion today on the role of traffic safety in creating stronger communities. Safety continues to be a top priority for MoDOT director Patrick McKenna and will be a focus during the conference.

Another topic that will be addressed is license plate readers. Boone County Sheriff’s Captain Brian Leer will deliver a presentation to the entire conference on Wednesday morning. License plate readers are credited with helping to locate the two suspects in the August murder in a Columbia Moser’s parking lot.
