Traffic is expected to be heavy Friday and Saturday throughout Columbia, due to Mizzou’s 111th  homecoming celebration and Saturday afternoon’s football game against Vanderbilt.

Saturday’s game kicks off at 3 o’clock at Faurot field. Mizzou athletics expects a good crowd, noting weather will be perfect. Tickets are still available.

Columbia Public Works is encouraging fans to utilize free shuttle rides to and from the game. Downtown routes begin service at 12:30 and run every ten minutes, with the final departure at 2:45. Parking will be free on Saturday at all six city parking garages, as well as the Armory sports lot and the Ninth and Ash street parking lot. Fans will be picked up at the garages and at locations like Harpo’s and Shiloh.

Boarding for return trips back to the downtown area begin at the end of the third quarter at Tiger avenue and Hospital drive.

University of Missouri officials are encouraging Mizzou football fans to park in downtown Columbia garages for tomorrow’s (Thursday) opener and to take a free greenway shuttle to the game.

Go COMO will begin downtown routes to Faurot starting at 4:30 tomorrow afternoon, and there are several places where you can be picked up. They include the Seventh street armory, the 5th and Walnut parking garage, Harpo’s, Shiloh Bar and Grill and Flat Branch. Go COMO will be running two downtown routes.

Columbia Public Works says the buses will operate on a ten-minute cycle, dependent on traffic.

Return trips will start at the end of the third quarter, and the last pickup will be 30 minutes after the game ends.

Tomorrow night’s kickoff between Mizzou and Louisiana Tech is set for 7. The University of Missouri is asking all employees who work on-campus in non-public-facing roles to leave campus at noon tomorrow.

The University of Missouri is making accommodations for the increased traffic expected for Thursday evening’s football season opener at Faurot Field in Columbia.

The Tigers will battle Louisiana Tech at 7 pm. Mizzou’s campus operations, including in-person classes, will continue as normal on Thursday. However, MU is asking all employees who work on-campus in non-public-facing roles and who can work remotely for the rest of the day to leave campus at noon on Thursday.

The university says faculty and staff whose work requires them to be on-campus should work their regular hours on Thursday in-person.

Traffic is expected to be very heavy across Columbia on Thursday afternoon and early evening, as tailgaters and fans arrive.

Mizzou fans are being urged to park in downtown Columbia garages, which will be free Thursday after 5 pm. Greenway shuttles will be available for transportation to Faurot.

Mizzou also says the Truman VA hospital garage will not be available for public parking on Thursday.
