Mid-Missouri’s winter weather advisory runs through noon Tuesday

November 15, 2022 By Brian Hauswirth

Columbia, Ashland, Moberly, Fayette and much of the listening area remain under a winter weather advisory through noon today (Tuesday).

National Weather Service (NWS) St. Louis meteorologist Jared Maples tells 939 the Eagle that the system started as rain last night in Columbia, before changing to a rain/snow mix and then to all snow.

“We did see accumulations overnight generally one to two inches on elevated and grassy surfaces. There are some thin areas of slush on some roadways,” Maples says.

He says ground temperatures last night were in the 40s, which helped. He’s urging you to be cautious when you drive to work this morning.

“It’s not going to be running at the clip that we saw earlier this morning and later last night, but nonetheless be advised that you could still run into some areas where you might pick up to maybe a half-inch to as much as an additional inch in that advisory area,” says Maples.

Keep your radio tuned to 939 the Eagle for updated weather forecast information.

Mexico town leaders to join MU Health executives at Tuesday grand-opening of medical building

September 9, 2022 By Brian Hauswirth

A Tuesday grand-opening celebration is planned for MU Health’s new medical building in mid-Missouri’s Mexico. The event begins at 9:30 am.

Columbia-based MU Health’s south Clark medical building in Mexico houses a family medicine clinic and a new Mizzou urgent care.

The town has been without a hospital since March, when Noble Health closed its doors. Mexico’s population is about 11,500, and there’s a large elderly population there and in Audrain County.

The new clinic offers care for the entire family, and has physician Dr. Diane Jacobi and nurse practitioner Regina Hill.  The urgent care also has physicians.

Residents in Mexico and Audrain County had been forced to drive to Columbia for emergency and other health care, once the hospital closed. Much of that health care need can be met with the new facility. It’s been a high priority for the Mexico area chamber of commerce.

MU Health says the Mexico facilities highlight its commitment to expand access to health care in rural communities like Mexico, Boonville and Fayette.
