Mid-Missouri motorist killed in collision with trash truck

A head-on collision Monday morning between a vehicle and a trash truck on Highway 124 in Boone County has killed a motorist from mid-Missouri’s Higbee.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s crash report says the incident happened at about 6:45 Monday morning, when 51-year-old Samuel Ancell of Higbee crossed the center line on 124 and traveled into the path of a trash truck. Ancell’s vehicle then caught fire, according to state troopers. Ancell was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

The trash truck slammed into a tree, but the 35-year-old Columbia driver was not injured. Boone County Fire Protection District assistant chief Gale Blomenkamp tells 939 the Eagle that the crash closed Highway 124 for about three-and-a-half hours.

Mid-Missouri motorist killed in collision with trash truck

UPDATE: One motorist killed after vehicle and trash truck collide north of Columbia

Boone County fire officials confirm one person has been killed in a horrific collision between a vehicle and a trash truck this morning on Highway 124 in northern Boone County.

Boone County Fire Protection District assistant chief Gale Blomenkamp tells 939 the Eagle that the vehicle struck the trash truck head-on. Mr. Blomenkamp say the vehicle’s driver was killed, while the trash truck driver was not injured.

Blomenkamp says the incident happened at about 6:45 this morning, closing Highway 124 completely until about 10:30 am to give the Missouri State Highway Patrol time to reconstruct the crash.

The victim’s name has not been released yet, pending notification of relatives.

Two-vehicle collision in Boone County kills Centralia teen

A Centralia teenager has been killed in a two-vehicle collision that happened Thursday afternoon on Highway 124 in Boone County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s crash report says a Toyota Rav driven by an 18-year-old Sturgeon resident failed to stop at a stop sign at 124 and Route CC. Her vehicle then traveled into the path of a vehicle driven by a Jefferson City man.

Missouri state troopers say an occupant in the first vehicle, 18-year-old Kara Teel of Centralia, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Toyota Rav’s driver, 18-year-old Madison McArthur, suffered serious injuries and has been transported to University Hospital in Columbia.

The Patrol says the Jefferson City motorist, 34-year-old Daniel Brandt, was not injured.
