Missouri’s House Majority Floor Leader expected to be Speaker in 2025

Missouri’s House Majority Floor Leader will likely be the next House Speaker in 2025.

Republicans currently have a 111-51 supermajority in the House in Jefferson City. Those 111 Republicans have selected State Rep. Jonathan Patterson (R-Lee’s Summit) as the Speaker-Elect for the 2025 legislative session. Dr. Patterson, a surgeon, is serving his third term in Jefferson City and is currently the House Majority Floor Leader, a powerful post that determines which bills will be debated next on the House floor.

Lee’s Summit has been trending a bit more Democratic, and Patterson won re-election to his third term in 2022 with 54 percent of the vote over Democratic challenger Sonia Nizami.

Representative Patterson says that as Speaker, he would continue to work with all members of the House to find common ground, pass what he describes as commonsense legislation and protect the rights, freedoms and values that Missourians hold dear.

Current Missouri House Speaker Dean Plocher (R-Des Peres) will remain as speaker until the end of 2024, when he’ll be forced out of the House by term limits.

(AUDIO): Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey appears on “Wake Up Mid-Missouri”

May 2, 2023 By Brian Hauswirth

St. Louis County Circuit Judge Ellen Ribaudo has issued a temporary restraining order which temporarily blocks a rule that would restrict access to gender-affirming health care to children and adults. Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey (R) joined us live this morning on 939 the Eagle’s “Wake Up Mid-Missouri.” State Rep. Keri Ingle (D-Lee’s Summit) describes General Bailey on Twitter as an “unelected bureaucrat issuing rules in order to further your radical anti-LGBTQ agenda.” Bailey responded to the comments from Representative Ingle on “Wake Up” and he also warned about crime in St. Louis and called for the removal of St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kimberly Gardner:

(AUDIO): Bipartisan Missouri landfill legislation is backed by Congressman Mark Alford

The Missouri House has voted to give final approval to bipartisan legislation that creates a one-mile buffer between landfills and neighboring towns.

House Bill 909 is sponsored by State Rep. Mike Haffner (R-Pleasant Hill). This week’s vote on Haffner’s bill was 139-16 and comes after public outcry from Missouri lawmakers in both parties about a proposed landfill that would be built near Raymore and Lee’s Summit. U.S. Rep. Mark Alford (R-Harrisonville), who represents part of Columbia on Capitol Hill, tells 939 the Eagle’s “Wake Up Mid-Missouri” that he and U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Kansas City) both oppose the proposed location.

“This landfill will probably be built, just not there,” Congressman Alford tells listeners.

Supporters of Haffner’s bill say the landfill would impact the livelihoods of thousands of Missourians, in its current proposed location.  Congressman Alford notes this is a bipartisan issue.

“I promised when I campaigned to be the voice and the vote for the people of my district. And I’m going to be their voice, I don’t care if it’s here, I don’t care if it’s in the Statehouse (in Jefferson City) or in city hall, that’s what I intend to do,” Alford says.

Raymore’s mayor also supports Haffner’s bill, saying the future of their community is on the line.
