Former Missouri Governor Jay Nixon served as governor from 2009-2017 and was also elected as Missouri’s attorney general four times. He’s also a former state senator from eastern Missouri’s DeSoto. Mr. Nixon is the new ballot integrity director for the No Labels organization, which hopes to have ballot access in all 50 states for a possible independent presidential candidate in 2024. Former Governor Nixon joined us on 939 the Eagle’s “Wake Up Mid-Missouri”, telling listeners that groups have been formed that are making it more difficult for No Labels to do what he says they have the constitutional right to do, which is qualify people for ballots. Mr. Nixon says the pillar of democracy of having citizen rights exceeds a party’s right. Former Governor Nixon says No Labels is not in this to be a spoiler in 2024, adding that Washington is broken. He cited a number of accomplishments his administration was able to do in Jefferson City while working with GOP supermajorities in the Missouri House and Senate:
(LISTEN): Parolee charged with killing pregnant Boone County woman
Boone County prosecutors have charged a parolee for two counts of second degree murder for Tuesday morning’s horrific killing of a 27-year-old pregnant woman on Clearview road. That’s about a mile north of the Columbia city limits.
31-year-old Sevance Brewer is also charged with armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a firearm. Boone County Sheriff’s Captain Brian Leer tells 939 the Eagle that deputies believe this is a case of domestic violence.
“Our units received information and after Boone County Joint Communications received a call reporting an assault at that location. That call came in just shortly before 7:30 am this morning. And our deputies responded over there and unfortunately found an adult female who had sustained life-threatening injuries and was deceased,” Captain Leer says.
Captain Leer says the 27-year-old victim was shot to death. Boone County Sheriff’s deputies have not released the female victim’s name at this time.
Missouri’s Probation and Parole Board is expected to revoke the parole of Brewer, who’s served at least two stints in prison. He has previous convictions for domestic assault and for possession of a controlled substance.
(LISTEN): Boone, Randolph and Howard counties under flood warnings
Boone County remains under a flood warning until 7:55 on Wednesday morning, while the flood warning for mid-Missouri’s Randolph and Howard counties goes until 12:37 pm.
The National Weather Service (NWS) says Columbia, Jefferson City and Mexico could see up to five inches of rain from the overnight thunderstorms that continue to move through mid-Missouri. NWS St. Louis meteorologist Melissa Byrd also says a flood watch covers the entire 939 the Eagle listening area:
“Be careful when out driving, watch for flooded roadways. Remember it only takes about six inches to knock a person off their feet in floodwaters and maybe a foot or so of flowing water can lift your vehicle and move you off the road,” Byrd tells 939 the Eagle.
The NWS says thunderstorms producing heavy rainfall started at about 11 Tuesday night. Flash flooding is the primary hazard from these storms. NWS St. Louis meteorologist Marshall Pfahler tells 939 the Eagle that radar estimates show that three to five inches of rain have fallen in parts of Boone counties, in the flood warning area.

(LISTEN): Boone County homicide appears to be domestic-related
Boone County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a homicide that happened Tuesday morning on Clearview road, about a mile north of the Columbia city limits. That’s just west of the Mosers on Rangeline.
Boone County Sheriff’s Captain Brian Leer tells 939 the Eagle that an adult female has been killed.
“Our units received information and after Boone County Joint Communications received a call reporting an assault at that location. That call came in just shortly before 7:30 am this morning. And our deputies responded over there and unfortunately found an adult female who had sustained life-threatening injuries and was deceased,” Captain Leer says.
He’s not releasing the victim’s name nor age yet.
“The initial investigation lends to the fact that it was a domestic disturbance, and we do have everyone accounted for that we believe was at the scene when this occurred. We do have a subject in custody at this time. There has been no formal arrests, booking made or formal charges at this point,” says Captain Leer.
Captain Leer emphasizes that there’s no threat to the public at this time.
