The Jefferson City council approved a plan this week that would allow more affordable housing to be built.
Councilman Ron Fitzwater says there was lively debate over the proposal at the city council meeting on Tuesday. He says he thinks the decision should’ve been delayed until the next meeting.
“I just don’t think it’s good public policy to have something that comprehensive dropped on [city] council, and [then we’re] expected to make a decision after about three hours of testimony from the public,” said Fitzwater on Wake Up Mid-Missouri.
The measure passed 6-5, with Mayor Carrie Tergin casting the tie-breaker vote.
The housing plans are meant to replace homes that were destroyed by the storms in May 2019. More than 150 homes were destroyed, with most of them being rental units.
