The Columbia non-profit Voluntary Action Center is about to break ground on a comprehensive $18 million dollar homeless services center on Business Loop 70 near the city power plant. The 53,000 square foot complex is called the Opportunity Campus. It’s a 125 bed homeless shelter with “wrap around” services that includes a clinic for providing medical, mental health, substance abuse and dental service. The executive director of the Voluntary Action Center Ed Stansberry was a guest on 93.9 The Eagle’s Columbia Buzz program with Mike Murphy and Al Germond on Sunday morning. He said the new facility won’t be an overnight solution to Columbia’s homeless program.
