The “Washington Post” is reporting this morning that a federal government shutdown looks more and more likely. U.S. Rep. Mark Alford (R-Raymore), whose district includes Columbia, Centralia, Hallsville and Harrisburg, is hopeful that can be avoided with a 30-day continuing resolution to keep the federal government running through October. Congressman Alford wants to see a secure border included in that version. He tells 939 the Eagle’s “Wake Up Mid-Missouri” that there are five members of his caucus who are prepared for a shutdown. Congressman Alford tells listeners that while federal spending has been bloated, he asks if you punish a nation to get your point across. He also addressed the strike involving the United Auto Workers (UAW) union:

Senator Rehder tells listeners that she expects the GOP-controlled Missouri House to override some of GOP Governor Mike Parson’s vetoes, but doesn’t expect the Senate to override the bills. She also discussed her run for Missouri Lt. Governor, saying her priorities would include issues like protecting seniors and addressing Missouri’s child care crisis and the foster care system:

State Sen. Bill Eigel (R-Weldon Spring), who chairs the Missouri Senate Veterans, Military Affairs and Pensions Committee, has formally kicked off his GOP gubernatorial campaign. Senator Eigel joined us live on 939 the Eagle’s “Wake Up Mid-Missouri, telling listeners that there were more than 1,000 people at Friday’s campaign kickoff event in St. Charles County. Senator Eigel says it’s time “to send a bold conservative reformer who will be a champion for the people of this great state and bring a reckoning to the Jefferson City swamp.” He blasted two fellow Republicans during the live interview, Governor Mike Parson and Senate Appropriations Committee chairman Lincoln Hough (R-Springfield). He criticized their spending proposals, saying Missouri’s state operating budget has grown from $20-billion in 2010 to $53-billion in 2023:
