State Rep. Tim Taylor (R-Speed) worked for the Columbia Fire Department for more than 20 years before being elected to the state Legislature from the Boonville area. Representative Taylor’s district includes the village of Wooldridge, and he spent Saturday in town speaking to residents impacted by the large natural cover fire. Representative Taylor tells 939 the Eagle’s “Wake Up Mid-Missouri” that Wooldridge’s church, post office and community building have been saved. But he says everything south of Highway 179 has been destroyed, adding he’s never seen anything like the four-mile long fire wall. The massive fire closed heavily-traveled I-70 for two hours on Saturday due to low visibility from the heavy smoke:

Speaking at a news conference, Police Commissioner Michael Sack said the three dead included a woman, a teenage girl and the shooter, described as a man about 20 years old. Kendrick praises partnerships that led to Columbia Regional Airport’s new terminal
The Democratic nominee for Boone County presiding commissioner describes Columbia Regional Airport’s (COU) $23-million new terminal as a game-changer for the region.
Former State Rep. Kip Kendrick (D-Columbia) tells 939 the Eagle that Columbia, Boone County, Jefferson City and mid-Missouri will all benefit.
“It is also the visitors that we’re going to get in, businesses we’re going to be able to recruit. The colleges will be able to compete better,” Kendrick says.
Kendrick says Mizzou, Columbia College, Stephens College and Moberly Area Community College will all benefit.
Mr. Kendrick also praises the partnerships that led to the new terminal’s completion.
“You know it wasn’t any one entity, it wasn’t any one municipality, it wasn’t any one county. It was the state, it was the federal government, it was local governments,” says Kendrick.
The first flight at COU’s new terminal is Wednesday.
Mr. Kendrick faces GOP nominee Connie Leipard in the November general election for Boone County presiding commissioner. The winner will replace outgoing presiding commissioner Dan Atwill, who decided against a re-election bid.
Three shot in downtown Columbia Friday night
Columbia Police are asking anyone who witnessed Friday night’s triple shooting downtown to come forward with information.
CPD Lieutenant Mike Hestir says the shooting happened at about 11:30 pm, near Hitt and Locust streets.
“If any citizens have video of this or saw it, we need you to call CrimeStoppers or call 311 so that an officer can take your statement and preserve this critical evidence for the investigation,” Hestir says. He spoke on-scene, in a video posted to CPD’s Twitter page.
You can reach Columbia CrimeStoppers at (573) 875-TIPS, and authorities don’t need your name. Lieutenant Hestir says officers who were already in the area heard gunshots and found an adult male who had been shot. They administered aid to the victim until EMS arrived and transported him to a local hospital. Two other gunshot victims were apparently taken to a local hospital by private vehicle.
Hestir also credits other law enforcement agencies for their assistance. He says Boone County Sheriff’s deputies and the Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the scene to help stabilize it and to render assistance.
CPD’s Criminal Investigations Division is in charge of the investigation.
