Missouri Governor Mike Parson (R) signed a bill into law this year that say no health care provider shall perform gender transition surgeries on any minor. Senate Bill 49 was sponsored by State Sen. Mike Moon (R-Ash Groves) and State Rep. Brad Hudson (R-Cape Fair). Implementation of the law is currently being challenged by critics who say it’s unconstitutional. Transgender groups say it also unfairly targets them. Missouri attorney general Andrew Bailey joined us live this morning on 939 the Eagle’s “Wake Up Mid-Missouri”, telling listeners that Senate Bill 49 is constitutional and will be upheld by the courts. General Bailey is in Springfield this morning for court proceedings. He also addressed Columbia murder suspect Samuel Brotherton’s guilty plea this week to second degree murder for the brutal shooting death of his stepfather in 2022. General Bailey says his office will hold wrongdoers accountable. Brotherton will be sentenced in October for second degree murder. Bailey also discussed gun rights, saying St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones’ proposed gun legislation would violate the constitutional right of Missourians to keep and bear arms:
Fall sentencing set for Columbia man who admits killing stepfather
A Boone County judge has scheduled an October sentencing date for a Columbia man who admits shooting his stepfather to death while the suspect was drunk last year.
23-year-old Samuel Brotherton pleads guilty to second degree murder and armed criminal action for discharging a weapon while intoxicated. Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey filed amended charges against Brotherton last week, from first to second degree murder.
General Bailey says he consulted with the victim’s family and Boone County prosecutors. Brotherton admits shooting and killing 64-year-old Rollin Thompson, his stepfather. The attorney general says the murder happened after a verbal argument, and that the unarmed victim was shot while hiding behind a closed, locked bedroom door.
The brutal March 2022 incident happened on Columbia’s Pinecrest drive, near Blue Ridge elementary school. Boone County Circuit Judge Joshua Calvin Devine has scheduled an October 20 sentencing date.

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey (R) says he’s filed 28 lawsuits against President Joe Biden. General Bailey joined us live this morning on 939 the Eagle’s “Wake Up Mid-Missouri”, telling listeners that Missouri vs. Biden will be in circuit court this week. Bailey describes the case as the most important First Amendment case in a generation. He also discussed abortion and his office’s cold case unit. The unit helped secure the recent conviction of Kirby King for the 1987 Franklin County murder of Karla Delcour. General Bailey praises the cold case unit’s multiple prosecutors, saying they have a combined experience of hundreds of years:
(AUDIO): Missouri’s AG reviewing documents from two closed mid-Missouri hospitals
Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey says his office’s investigation into the now-closed Mexico and Fulton hospitals continues.
General Bailey is investigating allegations made by former Mexico hospital employee Marissa Hagedorn and from State Rep. Kent Haden (R-Mexico) to 939 the Eagle that money was taken out of employees’ checks for health care, but the company didn’t pay the insurance premiums.
“And we’re continuing to obtain and review documents and analyze the evidence in that. And I promise you I know this is an important issue for folks in Audrain County and Callaway County and as soon as we can move forward and report something we’ll do that,” General Bailey says.
Bailey joined us live on 939 the Eagle’s “Wake Up Mid-Missouri.” Bailey’s office has launched what is called a CID into the now-closed hospitals. A CID is a civil investigative demand and is essentially a subpoena power. He has said that his office will use every legal mechanism at their disposal to find justice for those impacted by the closing of the Mexico and Fulton hospitals.

He’s also pleased with the Fabian Goldman Columbia murder guilty plea, and he also is critical of Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas’ recent tweet about statewide candidates, saying Lucas is involved in what he calls “performance theatre”:
