REDI stands for Regional Economic Development Incorporated (REDI). They work to advance economic mobility in Columbia and Boone County. REDI president Stacey Button says their primary focus is jobs. Ms. Button and REDI entrepreneurship coordinator Jay Sparks joined host Fred Parry in-studio for the hour Saturday morning on 939 the Eagle’s “CEO Roundtable.” They discussed the new $200-million Swift Foods plant in Columbia, which will involve 251 new jobs that pay more than $50,000. Stacey and Jay also discussed startup weekend and the hub and Columbia Regional Airport’s (COU) new $23-million terminal. Button confirms that flights to Charlotte from COU are still in the works:
UPDATE: Boone County Sheriff’s deputies believe multiple shooters involved in this weekend’s double shooting near Columbia
Boone County Sheriff’s deputies need your help in finding the suspect or suspects involved in Saturday evening’s double shooting on West Bellview, just outside the Columbia city limits.
One of the shooting victims is a five-year-old with non-life threatening injuries. No arrests have been made.
Boone County deputies say the shooting happened Saturday at about 6:35 pm on West Bellview, which is near Scott Boulevard and the MKT trail’s Jay Dix station. Deputies say that when they arrived, they found a 31-year-old man and the child outside the home with gunshot wounds. The Sheriff’s department says the man’s injuries are serious and life-threatening.
Deputies say initial evidence indicates that multiple suspects/shooters were involved.
The Boone County Sheriff’s investigation continues. Anyone with information is urged to call Columbia CrimeStoppers at (573) 875-TIPS. You can call that number anonymously. Columbia Police and the MUSTANG drug task force are assisting with the investigation.
ABC-17’s Abby Landwehr from our news partner KMIZ was on-scene throughout Saturday evening. Aby reports the entire house was surrounded by crime scene tape, and that most of the Boone County Sheriff’s deputies on-scene were in the back yard. It’s unclear if that’s where the shooting occurred.

Columbia’s Bowling for Autism event is Saturday; 2022 event raised $30,000
Bowlers from across mid-Missouri are expected to raise thousands of dollars Saturday in Columbia to help the Easterseals Midwest.
The 20th annual Bowling for Autism is presented by the Cleek family, and is tomorrow from 10:30 am to 12:30 at AMF Town and Country Lanes. It’s now known as the Cleek Bowling for Autism event.
Last spring’s event raised more than $30,000. All of the proceeds directly support EasterSeals Midwest services in Columbia and across Missouri. Zimmer Radio is a media sponsor for the event.
Columbia businessman John Cleek Jr. started this event 20 years ago.
9,000 Missouri FFA members to hear from UM System president on Friday in Columbia
Thousands of Missouri FFA members will hear directly from UM System President Dr. Mun Choi at this evening’s final FFA convention event at Columbia’s Hearnes Center.
Approximately 9,000 FFA members from across Missouri are in town, wearing their blue jackets. President Choi will speak at 5:30 at the Hearnes Center.
Missouri’s FFA will install new officers during the final day of its two-day convention today. Discussions are also planned about farm management, dairy, food science and other topics.
Columbia Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) director Amy Schneider tells 939 the Eagle that while many hotel rooms are taken for tonight, limited hotel rooms are available. You can call (573) 874-CITY if you need hotel information.
The Missouri FFA tells 939 the Eagle that the direct economic impact to Columbia from the convention is about $1.5 million. Missouri FFA executive secretary Teresa Briscoe says today’s FFA members are tomorrow’s chemists, biologists and veterinarians.
