Central Bank of Boone County is Columbia’s largest bank, with about $3-billion in assets. The bank has numerous branches throughout Columbia, two Boonville branches and branches in Ashland, Centralia, Hallsville and Sturgeon. Central Bank of Boone County president Ed Scavone joined host Fred Parry in-studio for the hour Saturday morning on 939 the Eagle’s “CEO Round Table.” Mr. Scavone credits the REDI staff for taking some REDI board meetings on the road to smaller communities. He also predicts that Ashland’s explosive growth will continue. Mr. Scavone predicts that in the future, Ashland and Columbia will be similar to what we’re seeing in southwest Missouri’s Nixa and Springfield:
Juvenile taken into custody after online threat against North Callaway High School
A juvenile suspect is taken into custody after a threat made toward North Callaway High School in Kingdom City.
The Callaway County Sheriff says the school district noticed the threat on social media late Thursday night. Deputies then located a juvenile suspect, who was then released to the county juvenile office.
Classes at North Callaway are on as normal today (fri), but there’s added law enforcement presence as a precaution.
Columbia murder suspect misses court appearance, expected to appear Friday
A Columbia murder suspect refused to appear in court Thursday, but is expected to appear Friday.
Emma Adams, 20, is charged with second degree murder and other felonies after human remains were found at a home on Bentley Court on Tuesday. Police say the unidentified victim’s remains were found in a fire pit. They were led to the scene after they ran a welfare check at a Mizzou residence hall to search for a missing person.
Prosecutors say Adams’ refusal to appear in court won’t make much of a difference, but if she refuses again, the judge may ask for a mental examination.
More radioactive tests sought at St. Louis school district
(AP) U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley and U.S. Rep. Cori Bush of Missouri are urging the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to do more testing for radioactive contamination at Hazelwood school district properties.
Hawley, a Republican, and Bush, a Democrat sent a letter to the Corps on Wednesday asking it to test all the district’s properties and reimburse it for testing that has already been done. Jana Elementary School in Florissant was closed in October after testing by a private company found contamination. Two subsequent tests by the Corps and a private company found no contamination.
Hawley and Bush said the district and its patrons need help from the federal government to determine their next steps.
Missouri boarding school under investigation will shut down
(AP) A Christian boarding school in Missouri that’s been under intense scrutiny over abuse allegations will close later this month. It’s citing financial hardship.
Agape Boarding School in Stockton has been the subject of state and location investigations and several lawsuits filed on behalf of former students. A statement from the school for boys says it will stop providing service effective Jan. 20. Attendance at Agape has plummeted to just 12 students since the abuse allegations surfaced.
A former student who has alleged abuse says the closure means that “the healing process can start.”
